Serenity

A couple of my favorite things in the world are Palm Trees and the beach. They are especially lovely when you get to escape to them in the middle of a long cold winter. Which my husband and I were fortunate enough to do in the harsh winter of 2010 (#thesituation2010). I don't think there was a place far enough south to escape the cold this year. This made the palm trees and shell encrusted beach all the more enjoyable. I don't know if it was the excitement of the escape, beautiful location or the warm sunshine that was responsible for the abundance of serenity we felt. If you get a chance in the middle of snow, ice and freezing cold try to run off where there's sunshine, Palm trees and a place to wiggle your toes in the sand. It makes you appreciate it all the more.

Crystal Morning

How frozen branches can be a thing of beauty is a mystery. But it happened in Memphis one morning when a blanket of ice crystallized our city over night. It seemed the slightest touch would have our city shattering to the ground in a million tiny pieces.

Every tree branch and every limb was wrapped with a coating of ice that caused the trees to bow in elegance giving an appearance of giant dangling crystal chandeliers. In the quiet still winter cold the branches sounded like chimes as the wind knocked them gently into one another.

In My Life

The first image that inspired me to start a blog is the one of my Uncle Joe at his 100th birthday celebration. As I saw him holding the hand of his bride of his youth I tried to imagine all the experiences they had together as the years have gone by. It made me think of all the experiences that I have every day that bring me joy. The little things that bring a smile and make me feel happy, like my favorite person holding my hand (which he does everyday). God is the giver of such joys throughout our life and for this I will be thankful. And so here I go to document the beautiful things and the little, sometimes not so little, things in my life.
